Proverbs 31:10

It's been a little while since I've posted, but I was able to reset my password today and get in here, so here I am!!

I've been studying to pursue a career as a medical transcriptionist.  It's a rigid syllabus, but it is something I can do from home, while I am still a homeschooling mom, and care provider for my dear husband.  I enjoy studying right beside my kiddos.

I've been thinking a lot about the woman who fears the Lord, mentioned in Proverbs 31.  She was amazing.  She was three times the woman I am, and probably even more, but I'm trying to learn from her, and I think our husbands would all be happy if we'd all spend just a little time reading up on her every day.  I'm going to try to tackle just one verse a day, with a short explanation, my take on it, and a prayer, in hopes that daily re-reading of this will help me to be more like her.

Proverbs 31:10-31

10)  An excellent wife who can find?  She is far more precious than jewels.  11) The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.  12) She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.  13) She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands.  14)  She is like the ships of the merchant;  she brings her food from afar.  15)  She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.  16)  She considers a field and buys it;  with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.  17) She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.  18) She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.  Her lamp does not go out at night.  19) She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.  20) She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy.  21) She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.  22) She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple.  23) Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land.  24) She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchant.  25) Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.  26) She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.  27) She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.  28) Her children rise up and call her blessed;  her husband also, and he praises her:  29) "Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all."
30)  Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.  31) Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.

Verse 10~  an excellent woman, hard to find but she does exist.  Why is she more valuable than jewels, because out of all the women in the world, there are so very few with the qualities and traits that she exhibits.  Spiritual and practical wisdom, plus integrity and morals set this woman apart from what we see in women today.
How can we start to be this kind of woman today, with just one verse read and studied?  We can know that it is possible to be a woman of moral value, honorable, and pleasing in the sight of God.

Heavenly Father,
Let me be this woman.  Strengthen me Lord so that I can glorify you in every single thing that I do.  Prepare my daughters to be these kind of women, and my daughter-in-laws to stand out in a crowd because of their morality and wisdom.   I thank you for showing her to me, and reminding me that having been washed with your blood, I am capable of being a wise and virtuous woman.  I can put all of who I once was behind me, and serve You, Lord.  Thank You for loving me.  Thank You for forgiving my sins.  Thank You for seeing me through each day with new mercies every morning.  I ask in Jesus' name.
