I am interested in becoming the kind of woman that God wants me to be. In pursuit of this, I am slowly investigating Proverbs 31:10-31. I covered verse 10 two posts back, and had a rough week in between, but now it's time to get back to it.
10) An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. 11) The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. 12) She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. 13) She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. 14) She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar. 15) She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens. 16) She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. 17) She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong. 18) She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out at night. 19) She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle. 20) She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy. 21) She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet. 22) She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple. 23) Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land. 24) She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchant. 25) Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. 26) She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. 27) She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. 28) Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 29) "Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all." 30) Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. 31) Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.
11. the heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.
This verse, in the company of verse 10 and 12, are discussing the woman's marriage. How nice it is that there is no jealousy in this marriage. He trusts her completely, and I'm sure that she has merited every ounce of the trust he has in her. He isn't keeping a jealous eye on her or having to watch his back because he's worried she's just in it 'for the money', as seems to be so incredibly prominent in today's society. She is 100% loyal to her husband. I think when you read this section of verses as a whole you also find that she is loyal to her role in the household too. Whether she is feeding and clothing her family, or selling the incredible products she has created, she is loyal in her dealings in and outside of her house.
I sure hope that when my husband looks at me, it is with trust and admiration; admiration and trust is so valuable in a marriage. Unfortunately, it seems to be underrated.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you so much for my husband. Thank you that he has a forgiving heart over mistakes I've made in years past. Thank you for his heart that is so eager to serve you, and lead our family in your way, and not his own. Lord, I ask this morning that you help me to become the woman that you desire me to be. Let my husband find nothing but peace and joy when his thoughts are of me. Help me Father to put my own self aside, and radiate that which makes you shine through me. Help me to be trustworthy in all of my dealings, but especially those that are between my husband and me. I am so thankful for the work you have already done in our hearts and home, please remember your promise to continue this good work that You have begun in us. In Jesus' name I pray.
Tawny
